IAI will lease Kfir aircraft to US Air Force, Navy
The contract is worth $15 million. The Kfirs will mainly be used to simulate enemy jets for training.

Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) will lease Kfir jet fighters to the US Air Force and Navy for use in training. The one-year contract is worth $15 million.
IAI will lease two to four Kfirs to Airborne Tactical Advantage Company (ATAC) of the US, which provides tactical training programs for the US armed forces.

The Kfirs will mainly be used to simulate enemy jets for training. Since the 1980s, IAI has signed several leasing agreements for Kfirs under the US Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy’s Aggressor program.

Under the current contract, the Kfirs will be used in air combat, ship attacks, and electronic warfare training. They will also tow targets for shooting exercises.

One reason the US leases Kfirs is that they are cheaper to operate than F-5s or Skyhawks.

IAI’s Lahav division will supply ATAC with spare parts, including engines, and provide maintenance.

ATAC is negotiating with US defense officials to expand the deal.

Kfirs in Pensacola now

Found on the usenet, here are some pics of Kfirs currently operated by the Airborne Tactical Advantage Company (ATAC) in Pensacola, Fla.

According to Globes 4 have been leased by IAI to ATAC.

Anybody knows if they are really C-7 models? and how they are esignated by the US services ? (F-21xx ?)

Okay, I guess I'm gonna have to climb the fence tomorrow and walk over to base operations and ask about these four aircraft. They are painted gray with large black letters on the fuselage aft of the wings. I didn't see any colored insignia or rondels. I wasn't able to get any good shots of them because they were landing on the west to east right unway and banked just before getting to my backyard. I'm going to go ask about the South Africans and see what happens, Tom in Pensacola.

There are a number of aircraft based around the Mirage5 airframe and all look similar. My vote goes to the Atlas Cheetah.

The Marines used Israeli Kfirs for dissimilar training some time ago, designated them F-21s. I'd heard that they'd given them all back though.

There are four of these aircraft participating in an exercise this month. They are 806KF, 842KF, 820KF and 822KF. See the photo for paint cheme.

I asked for help identifying these aircraft. Then I was able to post this:
About those aircraft: they are Kfirs. Let me refer you to a site at
http://www.globes.co.il/DocsEn/did=697938.htm for more information. A visual observation of the aircraft shows the letters ATAC on the tail.

The attached image isn't the best because the guy almost onto final before I got my camera and by then he was back lit by the sun and my fill-flash just isn't up to par on this kind of shots.

Those Kfirs were flying again this morning.

NAS Oceana Base Tour 6-13-2002
by JonHoughtaling

During the Summer tours of NAS Oceana are available. I took the tour in June when E-2C Hawkeye, C-2A Greyhound and C-9 Skytrain aircraft were operating out of Oceana due to runway repairs at Chambers Field, NAVSTA Norfolk. It was difficult to photograph the aircraft through the six inch opening on the tour bus windows but I made the best of the situation. Aircraft present during my visit included... F-14B/D, F/A-18A/B/C/D (inlcuding Blue Angel # 7), T-34C, C-9, C-130H, CT-39G, C-130H, P-3C, C-130T, UC-12B/M and a Kfir T2.

Sri Lanka to buy second-hand jet from Israel

COLOMBO, 28/06/2004 (AFP ) __Sri Lanka will buy a second-hand Kfir jet fighter from Israel next month to reinforce the island's air force which has lost a number of planes in the past three years, official sources said Monday.

The Sri Lankan air force fleet is made up mostly of Israeli-made Kfirs and Ukrainian-built MiG-27s. The exact details of the latest deal were not immediately known.

The air force has carried out only routine training missions since the government entered a Norwegian-brokered truce with the Tamil Tiger rebels in February 2002, halting a three-decade war that has claimed more than 60,000 lives.

A Ukrainian-made MiG-27 swing-wing aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from an airbase adjoining the Colombo international airport earlier this month. An identical jet crashed in August 2001, killing its Ukrainian pilot and wounding seven people on the ground.

Both the military base and the airport were attacked in July 2001 by Tamil Tiger guerrillas, who destroyed four civilian jets and damaged two more after completely destroying eight military planes, including two supersonic Kfir ground attack aircraft.

So here are all customers of Israely Python missiles:
Python 3 - Israel, Brazil, Colombia, Burma, South Africa, Ecuador, Chile, Romania (possibly Sri Lanka)
Python 4 - Israel, Chile (possibly Singapur and Ecuador)
Python 5 - Israel

Have seen pics of Python 4/5 mockup on JAS-39. Anybody know if this combination was tested in flight and reached possible operational status?

По-видимому, это учебная версия "Шафрир-2".

Note the different AA missiles on the right and left wings
Didn't know about Kfir "CE" (E for Ecuador?), the radar nose closely
resembles the SAAF Cheetah's. Wonder if it's a new Kfir mark or a
conversion.

Would this Kfir be considered an Interceptor or Air Superirity fighter since
it's radarized, or just a modern all weather mud-mover? Ecuador already
possesses the Jaguar for air to ground and the Mirage F-1 as
multi-role...
